Iceland Cricket offers Ambati Rayudu to play for them post his retirement
Iceland Cricket offers Ambati Rayudu: Iceland Cricket have tweeted to the retired Indian cricketer moments after he announced retirement.
Middle-order batsman Ambati Rayudu announced his retirement from international cricket earlier in the day. The 33-year old cricketer’s decision seems to have come on the back of him not making it to India’s squad for the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.
While Rayudu didn’t make it to the original squad, he was overlooked not once but thrice as he didn’t make the cut even when India opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan and all-rounder Vijay Shankar got injured during the tournament.
Having made his international debut in 2013, Rayudu was recalled into the squad during the Asia Cup Cup last year. Since his comeback, Rayudu scored 639 runs in 21 matches at an average of 42.60 and a strike rate of 84.07 including a century and four half-centuries.
What further didn’t work in Rayudu’s favour on the brink of the World Cup was him registering score of 0, 90, 13, 18 and 3 in his last five ODI innings. It was Shankar who played a couple of promising innings to stake a claim ahead of Rayudu.
Having retired from First-class cricket in a bid to concentrate on his limited-overs cricket, Rayudu’s plans didn’t seem to go his way as far as selection is concerned.
Iceland Cricket offers Ambati Rayudu to play for them
Iceland Cricket took to social media platform Twitter to offer Rayudu to play for them. The tweet saw them attaching list of documents required to get a permanent resident permit in Iceland.
“[Mayank] Agarwal has three professional wickets at 72.33 so at least. Ambati Rayudu can put away his 3D glasses now. He will only need normal glasses to read the document we have prepared for him. Come join us Ambati. We love the Rayudu things,” read the tweet.
