UFC 250: Cody Stamann picks up emotional win against Brian Kelleher. The Bantamweight entered the Featherweight fight despite a personal tragedy.

Cody Stamann’s teenage brother passed away last month. Many would have dropped out, Stamman however, chose to fight on. No one would have blamed him for sitting out of UFC 250. Instead, he vowed to dedicate the fight to his departed sibling’s memory.

The bantamweights open fired quickly. Stamman eventually sent Kelleher to the ground. Kelleher quickly got back on his feet connected a left hook. The round ended with Stamman dodging a Kelleher combination.

In the second round Stamman landed a clean right hand. He eventually received a big takedown with 90 seconds remaining. However, he landed in full guard and looked to posture up and land ground and pound.

Stamman started the third round quick. However, Kelleher began applying pressure to end the round with a takedown with him on top. Each of the 3 judges scored the bout (30-27) to hand Stamman the win by a unanimous decision.

Stamman who had stayed strong all through this finally broke down in the post-match interview.

“It’s been hard, it’s been real hard,” he said. “I’ve been fighting tears all day just holding it together, it’s a hard time for me. I just…had to buckle up and be a man to get this done, for him for my family for myself and Brian Kelleher. Thank you so much for coming out there and giving it tonight.”
