Hassan Azad caught off guard: Leicestershire’s opening batsman was stumped off a fast bowler in a surprising manner today.

During the first day of a North Group match for the Bob Willis Trophy between Leicestershire and Derbyshire in Leicester, Leicestershire opening batsman Hassan Azad was dismissed cheaply in the most unexpected manner against a fast bowler.

It all happened on the penultimate delivery of the eighth over being bowled by Luis Reece when Azad comfortably left a delivery outside his off-stump. Less did he know then that him standing outside his crease would come at the price of his wicket.

It was at this time that Derbyshire wicket-keeper Harvey Hosein under-armed the ball to the stumps and caught Azad off guard as his feet were outside the crease when the ball hit the stumps.

While batsmen tend to stand outside their crease to fast bowlers in a bid to counter the swing on offer, they also make sure that they return inside the crease upon leaving the ball.

Opening the batting with Ben Slater (0), Azad ended up scoring 6 (24) with the help of one four as the hosts lost their second wicket inside the first hour.

After Leicestershire captain Ben Ackermann won the toss and elected to bat in the morning, his team lost as many as six wickets for less than 150 runs against Derbyshire.
