“As mere media members, we don’t have the right to question Kyrie Irving”: Stephen A. Smith’s sarcastic response to Nets star’s mysterious absence from play
Stephen A. Smith sarcastically berates Kyrie Irving for his comments belittling the media and for missing 5 games in row.
It seems as though the way superstars can get their faces plastered all over media is to skip games and go party for the night. The 2020-21 NBA season started off with James Harden throwing a fit and not showing up to Rockets games because he wanted to be traded.
Now, Kyrie Irving is following suit and not showing up to Nets games. He hasn’t hit the NBA hardwood ever since their blowout win over the Utah Jazz nearly 10 days ago.
He has completely detached himself from speaking to anyone about his motive behind missing games, especially the media. Media members continue to remain dark on the matter. They are having to rely on various sources to dig up any form of credible information related to Kyrie Irving’s mysterious absence.
Stephen A. Smith takes shots at Kyrie Irving for going off the grid
Stephen A. Smith referenced Kyrie’s previous comments on the media by saying:
“As mere media members, what right do we even have to ask him why he’s not showing up to work?”
This is of course a wildly sarcastic comment on Stephen A’s part as it is quite literally the media’s job to question star players when they have dramatics like this following them around.
Stephen A. Smith is known for not appreciating Kyrie Irving’s stance on talking to the media. Kyrie started off this season by claiming he would not be speaking with the media until further notice.
The Nets had reservations about giving Kyrie Irving a deal. And we are seeing exactly why now.

This is considered a bit unethical as speaking with the media is part and parcel of being an NBA player. Kyrie was ridiculed widely and from all quarters. Through the first couple of games, it felt as though he’d let his game do the talking for him. But public opinion of him is again ebbing low these days.
