“I’ve always been confident shooting the ball”: LaMelo Ball creates history, joins Stephen Curry and Jason Kidd with 7 3-pointers in win over Rockets
‘I’ve always had confidence in my shot’: LaMelo Ball talks about his game following historic performance against the Rockets.
On Monday night, the Hornets played against the Rockets. LaMelo Ball had yet another historic performance to help Charlotte defeat the Rockets 119-94. Ball scored an impressive 24 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds, becoming only the third rookie in league history to hit 7+ three-pointers and dish 10+ assists, joining Stephen Curry and Jason Kidd.
Having some COVID-19 issues pregame, Ball was restricted to his house and didn’t have time to shoot around pre-game. He still had a standout performance in the blowout win. When asked in an interview, Ball said:
“I’ve always had confidence in my shot and always believed that I could shoot.” He continued to talk about his shooting. “Everywhere I’ve went, they usually try to change my shot. But I always stick with it myself. I say ‘This is how I shoot.’ I’m confident in it.”
“Always had confidence in my shot. Always believed I could shoot. Just making shots now, I guess.”

LaMelo Ball ties Charlotte Hornets’ franchise rookie record with 7 made threes
Hornets head coach James Borrego spoke about how there were concerns about his shooting before drafting him. He said:
“There was concern on my part. But when we went to LA to interview him and watch him, there was just confidence about him and his shot. And I think as I sat there with Mitch, I looked over him and said, ‘He’s going to be fine.’ The kid oozes confidence. He believes it’s going in. That’s at least half the battle in this thing. And he’s going to continue that. He’s fearless. He believes it’s going in. He can get to the rim – I know he missed a lot of bunnies tonight – but I’m really proud of his effort tonight.”

LaMelo has been averaging 13.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6 assists per game this season. He has helped the Hornets have a 12-13 record to currently sit on the 6th spot in the Eastern Conference. Ball is currently the favourite to win the Rookie of the Year. If he keeps up performances like this, there is no stopping him from winning it.
