“Michael Jordan and his Bulls in the social media era would blow up crazy”: Zach LaVine reflects on ‘The Last Dance’ with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson

Zach LaVine raved about the popularity and appeal of Michael Jordan and his 3-peating Chicago Bulls during the 90s in a recent podcast.

Matt Barnes runs a very tight ship on the ‘All the Smoke’ podcast. Stephen Jackson, who was in hot water last summer over some serious anti-semitic social media posts, has been quiet ever since.

Barnes’ open nature on the show makes for a very watchable podcast experience. His guests are all made to feel as comfortable as if they’re smoking a joint in their own cribs. This helps Barnes garner some really interesting answers and antidotes from his guests.

Zach LaVine has been one of the shining lights of this season. One could argue that he’s worthy of All-NBA honors based on his performances this season. He got his first All-Star nod as well this year, making it to Team Durant on All-Star Sunday.

Zach LaVine reflects on the worldwide popularity of Michael Jordan and his 90s Bulls teams

As the greatest scorer in Bulls history since MJ himself, LaVine often draws comparison to the GOAT. They both have various similarities – LaVine is the high-flier of his generation, winning 2 Dunk Contests like MJ.

But LaVine knows that his popularity is nowhere in the ballpark of Jordan – something he acknowledged on the podcast:

“Obviously I was a huge Michael Jordan fan and I think all of us were. Just seeing how he interacted with his teammates and how he moved and how his mind worked. You can watch all the stats you want to and all the highlights, but seeing dudes in practice or in up-close interviews is different.” 

“I just want to do my part to put the Chicago Bulls back on the map and get them back to the championship era. Chicago sports are big. They really root for you. It’s exciting and I’m very humbled to wear Chicago across my chest.”
