“Rachel Nichols’ first call was to LeBron James’ top advisor”: Clay Travis breaks down how ESPN apparently insulates Lakers star from criticism
Clay Travis went on Fox to use Rachel Nichols’ latest statements regarding Maria Taylor as more ammo against LeBron James.
An explosive piece of conversation between popular ESPN host Rachel Nichols and LeBron’s spokesman Adam Mendelsohn has been doing the rounds on NBA Twitter for the last couple of hours. This is what Rachel said in the clip:
“Hey, instead of hosting the NBA Finals, why don’t you do Doris’ sideline reporting job for the NBA Finals? ‘Cuz guess what that would clear the way for? For Maria to do the hosting full-time.”
“So I have declined. I don’t know what their next move is, but they are feeling pressure because of all that. And I’m trying to figure out…I wish Maria Taylor all the success in the world.”
“If you feel the need to give her more things to do because you’re feeling the pressure about your crappy long-time record on diversity – which I myself know from the female side of it – then go for it.”
Clay Travis attempts to paint LeBron James in a bad light using this Rachel Nichols clip
This clip is a heaven-sent opportunity for Travis, who’s made waves as a notorious detractor of James over the years. Travis will, in all likelihood, devote a considerable segment of his News segments in the near future to this topic.
But before that, he’s already started the conversation off on Twitter. This is what he wrote in his caption to the clip containing words from Rachel to Mendelsohn:
“When Rachel Nichols lost her TV job to Maria Taylor because of diversity pressure per Nichols, who was her first call? LeBron’s top advisor. If you ever wondered why LeBron gets a free pass for his idiocy, here you go. ESPN’s talent is working with him.”

It seems that ESPN is going to bleed dry from a ton of its talent going on this cold war. And Clay Travis, who works for their rival, competing networks, could not be happier.
This soundbite gives him the holy trifecta of reasons to go after James on TV while also taking shots at his rival network’s practices.
