Chris Jericho to continue in NJPW for a while
After giving the performance of his life against “The Cleaner” Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12, it seemed like Jericho’s stint with NJPW would be over.
But in a surprising turn of events, Y2J apparently has picked out his next target. At the close of NJPW’s New Year Bash event, Naito addressed the crowd after the tag team match against Chaos. His promo was interrupted by Jericho who unloaded a bunch of punches and kicks on to Naito who was pushed into the corner.
Naito is one of the major stars on rise and won the G1 climax last year where he defeated Kenny Omega in the final. That gave him the opportunity to face Kazuchika Okada for the Heavyweight Championship.
Naito failed to capture the title at the grandest stage after falling short despite a heroic effort.
Jericho could face Naito at NJPW’s next pay-per-view titled “New Beginnings”. “The Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla” is currently a free agent as his contract with the WWE has expired.
The move to NJPW seems to be really benefiting Y2J as he gave one of his best performances in years. Jericho is allowed to operate with more freedom in Japan and the result is clearly visible.
Jericho is currently not advertised for any WWE shows so far, with his Fozzy schedule colliding with the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania events.
