Daniel Ricciardo opens up on his F1 future

Daniel Ricciardo is one of the hottest properties in F1 right now, especially after his overtaking masterclass at the Chinese Grand Prix.

Rumours suggest that Ferrari and Mercedes have already contacted Ricciardo in a bid to sign him up after his Red Bull deal runs out at the end of this year.

However, Ricciardo has come out and said that none of the top two F1 teams have contacted him yet.

Also, Ricciardo has revealed that he wouldn’t be signing a long-term deal this time round, as he would like to wait and assess the the new F1 rules that kick in after the 2020 season.

“I don’t want to sign anything too long because I don’t know where the sport’s going,” Ricciardo told The Times newspaper.

“I feel like life is happening pretty fast.

“Each year something might change so I don’t want to tie myself down for four more years and then I’m like, ‘I don’t want to do this any more’.

“Ideally I’d sign a two-year contract. I think two years I can definitely be comfortable with and then see it from there. That third year will be the rule change so I will probably wait and see what happens then.” he added.

On the rumours about a potential move to Ferrari or Mercedes, Ricciardo said that if any of those two teams wanted, they should go ahead and contact him first.

The Australian confirmed that he would stay put, if Red Bull goes onto win the title this time round.

“I kind of feel like if they want me to race for them they should contact me, but they haven’t,” Ricciardo said.

“If we win this year then I’m staying with Red Bull. It’s pretty simple. It’s really just about performance at the moment.” he added.
