Ravindra Jadeja nickname: Why Indian all-rounder is called ‘Sir Jadeja’?
Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is celebrating his birthday today along with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer. Jadeja is one of the most important pillars of the Indian line-up, but he is nursing an injury at the moment.
This year has been not been great for Jadeja personally. He was appointed as the captain of CSK ahead of the IPL 2022 season but was replaced by MS Dhoni midway through the tournament due to his poor performances as both player and a captain. Jadeja then got injured and was ruled out of the tournament.
Jadeja missed this year’s T20 World Cup as well due to surgery on his knee. It is safe to say that Jadeja’s absence has hampered the balance of the side, and the team would want him to be back fit as soon as possible.
Ravindra Jadeja nickname
Ravindra Jadeja got his nickname ‘SIR’ from a tweet made by MS Dhoni way back in 2013. Nowadays, Dhoni is not active on the platform, but he did a tweet about Jadeja. Sir Rajnikanth’s jokes were at their peak during that time, and Dhoni made a tweet after IPL 2013 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings.
The match was being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, and CSK required 2 runs of the last ball. RP Singh was bowling, Jadeja got out on that ball, and Virat Kohli started celebrating. However, it was later revealed that it was a no-ball, and CSK won the match. Dhoni sarcastically tweeted about Jadeja about that reference only.
”If you give Sir Jadeja 2 runs to score from 1 ball he will win it with the ball left,“ MS Dhoni tweeted way back in 2013.
When you give Sir Ravindra Jadeja one ball to get 2 runs he will win it with one ball to spare !!
— Mahendra Singh Dhoni (@msdhoni) April 13, 2013
Dhoni and Jadeja will reunite yet again next year where both of them will be playing for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. MSD will be leading the side after stepping down as the captain earlier this year, but he was re-instated yet again this season only midway.
