The Chicago Bears have a lot of options with the #1 overall pick, and one NFL analyst believes they could move on from Justin Fields and take Bryce Young.

The Bears’ draft day situation got very interesting on the last day of the NFL regular season. It seemed all but locked in that the Houston Texans would have the first overall pick.

A Texans loss would have secured the first overall pick for them, but they pulled a miracle out of their hats against the Indianapolis Colts, converting a massive 4th and 20 into a touchdown and then getting the two-point conversion to win the game.

It was wild in every which way, and with the Bears losing to the Vikings, they jumped the Texans in the draft order to gain the first overall pick and a welcoming headache.

Would the Bears trade Justin Fields to draft Bryce Young?

Quarterback has always been a position of pain for Chicago fans. They haven’t had a quarterback throw for 4,000 yards or pass for 30 touchdowns, and despite their best efforts, they haven’t found that franchise guy yet.

Mitch Trubisky was a failed experiment with the #2 pick. So, when the time came, they traded up in the draft to select Justin Fields out of Ohio State.

Fields’ first two years have been hard to measure. He hasn’t performed well when you look at raw stats, especially in the passing department.

His 60.4% completion percentage ranks 31st, his 2,242 yards were 26th in the league, and his 85.2 passer rating was good for 25th in the league.

However, whatever he lacked with his arms, he made up with his legs. He ran for 1,143 yards this year, good for second in NFL history for a quarterback, and added 8 touchdowns with his legs. He was electric, a weapon the league simply didn’t see coming this soon into his career.

He also stood tall with one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL as he was sacked a league-high 55 times. Additionally, the Bears didn’t have a clear #1 receiver for him to rely on. There was a clear improvement for Fields over his rookie year, and he has shown flashes to become a superstar in the league.

But, is it enough for Ryan Poles? Poles wasn’t there when Ryan Pace drafted Justin Fields, and with the potential to draft a great franchise quarterback, he might just take it. NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho believes it’s possible.

Bryce Young has the resume to back up being the first overall pick, and we’ve seen other teams move on from potential franchise quarterbacks before (see Josh Rosen), so would it be so wild to consider drafting Young despite having Fields?
