Delhi Capitals Highest Run Chase in IPL History
Delhi Capitals, whose lone entry in the list of highest successful Indian Premier League run-chases is also their only instance of chasing a target in excess of 200 runs, will have to register their second-highest run-chase if they are to win the ongoing IPL 2023 Match 40 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Although losing captain David Warner (0) on the second ball of the innings wasn’t an ideal start for the Capitals in a 198-run chase tonight, other top-order batters namely Phil Salt and Mitchell Marsh completing a 100-run second-wicket partnership at a brisk pace has more than just kept them in the contest.
Interestingly, DC’s highest run-chase had also come at their home ground almost six years ago. One of the three highest targets achieved in Delhi T20s, the match is fondly remembered for a 19-year old Rishabh Pant scoring a match-winning 97 (43) with the help of six fours and nine sixes against a Suresh Raina-led Gujarat Lions. It is worth mentioning that the same was the highest run-chase throughout IPL 2017.
Much like Pant, it is noteworthy that the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Jason Roy had all scored in the 90s respectively as top-order batters in the below mentioned successful chases. The fifth instance, however, is popularly remembered for South Africa wicket-keeper batter Quinton de Kock‘s maiden IPL century.
While Delhi’s third-highest successful run-chase has also come against Lions, two of their Top Five targets achieved have come at the Wankhede Stadium till now.
