Richard Sherman Waited 4 Years To Reflect on How Patrick Mahomes Broke His Heart During Super Bowl LIV: “He Scored About 20 Unanswered Points”
Richard Sherman is finally setting the ‘Undisputed’ stage on fire. His addition to the team has proven to be a huge hit already. In one of his most recent takes, the Super Bowl champion took a dig at how Patrick Mahomes broke his heart in 2019 when he lost Super Bowl LIV to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Sherman’s words definitely carry the weight of a seasoned NFL veteran who has seen it all. He waited 4 long years to have the perfect stage to reveal how heartbreaking it was for him to lose the Super Bowl to the then-second-year QB Patrick Mahomes, despite having the best defense in the league. For Sherman, it was a bitter pill to swallow, and now, he’s letting the world in on his pain.
Richard Sherman Relives Super Bowl LIV Heartbreak
Back in 2019, Richard Sherman was on a quest for another Super Bowl Victory. However, things eventually didn’t go his way at Super Bowl LIV. In the game, the San Francisco 49ers succumbed 20-31 to the Kansas City Chiefs. Talking about the game on ‘Undisputed,’ Sherman recently said,
“You had to show me clips of a Super Bowl that breaks my heart to this day, because that man (Mahomes) gunned, seven minutes to go in the game we’re up 10, he went, I want to say 20 unanswered points.”
The NFL veteran is a Super Bowl champion with the Seattle Seahawks. In the Super Bowl LIV game, however, Sherman had a firsthand view of the Chiefs’ explosive offense, which overcame the San Francisco 49ers. Apparently, the 49ers had one of the best defenses in the league that season, but Patrick Mahomes and company just ran through them with ease. While Skip Bayless attempted to shift some of the blame on Jimmy Garoppolo, Sherman tried explaining the situation, stating,
“Our quarterback didn’t play defense. We had the number one defense in the land that year, I did not play well. He (Garoppolo) went out there and he threw strikes, he threw strikes, he ran the ball well, he executed well.”

It was one of those games that propelled Patrick Mahomes as one of the future stars of the NFL. Even though Mahomes didn’t start the game well with two interceptions, he rebounded immediately and secured the first Super Bowl victory of his career.
Richard Sherman Once Reflected on Joining Forces With Tom Brady
Richard Sherman has seen his share of triumphs and heartbreaks in the NFL. After enduring the heart-wrenching loss in Super Bowl LIV to Patrick Mahomes led Kansas City Chiefs, the veteran cornerback went on to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to play alongside NFL legend Tom Brady.
According to Sherman, his decision to join the Bucs came after conversations with multiple teams. However, it was a call with Tom Brady that really turned him to sign for the Bucs in 2021. Talking to PFF about the same, Sherman said, “I went with the best offer I had, the best opportunity to go out there and put some great tape on, to lead another group.” Talking about how Tom Brady influenced his decision, he said,
“He [Tom Brady] reached out initially and just checked to see if I was in shape. He and I have had a relationship over the years. He’s a great guy. Very encouraging. Obviously, we had our history, but what happens on the field stays on the field. Off the field, I think we have a very solid relationship.”

The NFL icon always has shown a competitive spirit which, to be honest, has always driven him to perform at his best. Back when Sherman won the Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seattle Seahawks, they decimated the Denver Broncos by 43-8. Sherman was a key figure in the famed “Legion of Boom” defense at that time. As Richard Sherman tries fitting in on ‘Undisputed‘, on can safely say that such interesting stories will keep coming in from the NFL veteran in the near future.
