Why Did Tyreek Hill Leave Kansas City, Despite Winning a Super Bowl With the Chiefs?
Tyreek Hill leaving Kansas City was perhaps one of the biggest stories of 2022. Despite winning a Super Bowl ring in 2020, with the team that drafted him, the Cheetah expressed his desire to leave the unit last year, surprising everyone. As the star WR went into contract negotiations, he says the team just wasn’t willing to give him the money he deserved.
On the debut episode of his own show ‘It Needed To Be Said’, Hill talked about why he did not stay with the Chiefs. He explained that even though his heart wanted to continue playing for Kansas City, the offer from the team simply was not good enough. Hill was expecting a contract that gave him $25-26 million a year. However, the Chiefs’ offer seemed to barely reach that figure. He said,
“I’m like, ‘Hey Coach, yo like, I ain’t even gotta be the highest-paid, for real. I just want to be put in like a realistic position that’s like realistic for me and my family. I don’t gotta get $30 million. At least get me 25, 26. … Numbers wasn’t even close to that.”
For the Chiefs, this move was nothing but a temporary disturbance, as they went on to nab other prolific receivers such as JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes Scantling. While the Chiefs did lose a vital member of the receiver corps, innumerable fans, and experts reckon that Hill is the one who has lost the most out of this.
Hill went on to sign a $120 million contract with the Dolphins over 4 years, of which, he is set to make $72.2 million in guaranteed money. And while his first season with his new team was more or less good, his off-season is not going so smoothly.
Hill Under Investigation for Assault and Battery
Reportedly, the Dolphins receiver is being investigated for assault and battery by the Miami PD, after he allegedly hit an employee of a charter company. As it turns out, this isn’t the first time Tyreek has had a run-in with the law. In the past, he has been accused of domestic violence and child abuse which also tarnished his image to a massive extent.
While things may not be exactly rosy right now, Hill will be looking forward to this season. With Tua Tagovailoa returning to QB duties, he would be hoping to be targeted quite a few times. Who knows, maybe the duo will lead the Dolphins into the playoffs, maybe even to the Super Bowl? Does Miami have what it takes to be a part of the big table?
