Despite Not Winning a Super Bowl Title in Last 28 Years, 49ers Earned $136,000,000 in 'Highest Ticket Revenue' Last Year

The San Francisco 49ers, one of the most iconic and celebrated teams in the NFL, haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1995. However, not winning the Lombardi Trophy even once in the last 28 years, has not stopped them from bringing in a whopping $136,000,000 in ticket revenue alone during the 2022/23 NFL season, making them the highest ticket-revenue-earning franchise in the league over the past year.

The 49ers, after a late surge, crashed out of the NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles. However, their consistency during the regular season saw them secure a top-spot finish in the NFC West division making it a decent season overall. The consistency in their performance level has also helped them attract a massive fanbase over the years, who are loyal and willing to back them through thick and thin.

San Francisco 49ers’ Faithful Fans Help the Franchise Earn Maximum Revenue From Ticket Sales

The North Carolina-based NFL franchise topped the ticket revenue charts last season and this can only be attributed to only one aspect- their ever-loyal fanbase. Since 2014, the Niners play their home games at Levi’s Stadium boasting a capacity of 68,500, which is by no stretch of the imagination among the biggest stadiums in terms of capacity used within the league. This makes their achievement all the more impressive.

The 49ers fans have shown faith in their franchise and wholeheartedly supported them last season even when they did not have a proven first-choice quarterback. Head coach Kyle Shanahan used as many as four quarterbacks throughout their 2022/23 campaign. Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance suffered season-ending injuries and rookie quarterback Brock Purdy led the team to a playoff finish.

According to a report by Sportico, the 49ers were closely contested by another NFC franchise, the Dallas Cowboys, who earned the second-highest revenue from ticket sales during the last season. The team who had to suffer the most in revenue from ticket sales was the Arizona Cardinals, earning about $58 million in ticket sales which makes them the lowest-ranked team in the NFL. The Jacksonville Jaguars earned a bit more and were ranked 31st. Cincinnati Bengals proved to be the surprise candidates amongst the lowest earners, coming in at the 30th position.

Dallas Cowboys Rule the Roost in NFL As the Most Valuable Team in All of Sports

While the San Francisco 49ers earned the highest ticketing revenue, the Dallas Cowboys maintained their aura as the most valuable franchise in the NFL for a 14th consecutive year. They achieved this feat despite having not won a Super Bowl since 1996.

More popularly known as America’s Team, they are currently worth a whopping $8 billion and are also the most valuable team across all the sporting leagues, according to Forbes. Jerry Jones’ franchise also created history by becoming the first sporting team to rake in a humongous sum of more than $1 billion in revenue during the 2022/23 season, courtesy of their multiple cash-rich sponsorship deals.

The 49ers are also amongst the highest-valued teams in the NFL, ranking 8th overall with a valuation of a gigantic $5.2 billion. The success stories of both the 49ers and the Cowboys clearly highlight the fact that the commercial aspect of the NFL is not perfectly correlated with the sporting successes enjoyed by franchises. Both of them have not tasted major success on the gridiron for a number of years now, but that hasn’t stopped them from earning billions of dollars off the gridiron.
