NFL MVP: List of Every NFL MVP since 1957 Including Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, and Aaron Rodgers
Interest around NFL MVPs has been peaking recently, since EA Sports released the cover of the Madden 22 “MVP Edition”. Read on for the list of every NFL MVP since Jim Brown back in 1957.
Every year, one player is recognized for being the “most valuable” in the league. Although many independent bodies may select their own MVPs, the most prestigious is the one selected by the AP (Associated Press).
50 sportswriters, chosen for their expertise and credibility, cast their votes for MVP at the end of the regular season. The AP has selected an “MVP” since 1957, however it was only in 2011 that the league introduced NFL Honors, the award show where the MVP and other individual trophies are handed out.
Given the nature of the game, there has been a strong bias in favor of offensive players, particularly QBs and RBs. Only 2 defensive players and one special teamer have ever won MVP.
In the history of the award, former Colts and Broncos QB Peyton Manning is the winningest player, with 5 trophies to his name.
List of Every NFL MVP since 1957
Before we dive into the list, note that there are some discrepancies. The AP officially says they named their first MVP in 1961, meaning there is some confusion with the first 4 winners.
