Golf Men’s individual Round 1 Day 1:

Result: Anirban Lahiri and Shiv Chawrasia had a mixed day at the field

Brief Report: Anirban Lahiri didn’t start well and scored 3 bogeys and 2 birdies on day 1 to finish at 49th position. The other Indian, Shiv Chawrasia scored 3 birdies, 3 bogies and dropped a shot to finish at 27th position at the end of day 1.

 

Badminton Women’s doubles:

Result: J. Gutta and A. Ponnappa crashed out of round 1

Brief Report: The task of beating the first seeded Japanese team was always going to be difficult. The Indian pair who were unfortunately set up with this fixture lost the game in 38 minutes. The score line read 15-21, 10-21 at the end.

Badminton Men’s doubles:

Result: B. S. Reddy and M. Attri lost their group stage game

Brief Report:  The debutants started on a poor note and lost their group stage match to Indonesian pair. The score line was 21-18, 21-13.

Archery Women’s individual Round of 16

Result: Both Bombayla Devi and Deepika Kumari got eliminated in pre-quarters

Brief Report: Both the archers were beaten fairly easily. Deepika was beaten 0-6 by Chinese Taipei’s Ya-Ting Tan and Bombayla Devi 2-6 by Mexico’s Alejandra Valencia.

Field Hockey (Men):

Result: India lost to Netherlands 1-2

Brief Report:  It was a clichéd sight as India were confident in the first half, but succumbed to pressure in the second half. India’s defence was exceptional in the first half and they held the Dutch scoreless. However, in the second half the Dutch scored two back to back goals and India could just pull one back. Despite the loss, India has entered the quarters owing to other results going her way.

Badminton Women’s singles:

Result: Both P.V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal won their respective games

Brief Report: PV Sindhu defeated her Hungarian opponent in straight sets in her opening game. She dominated her opponent pretty much from the beginning to win the game in straight sets 21-8, 21-9. Saina Nehwal on the other hand had to struggle for her victory. Her final score line read as 21-17, 21-17.

Boxing Men’s bantam 56 kg Round of 32

Result: Shiva Thapa was defeated by the defending champion

Brief Report: Shiva Thapa had a horror start as he received a few punches before he found this form. But by that time the damage was beyond control and he lost the game eventually.

Tennis Mixed doubles

Result: Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna enter quarters

Brief Report: The Indian duo dominated their Australian opponents to win 7-5, 6-4 and entered the quarter-finals here. Their quarters’ fixture is against Andy Murray’s team.
