Charles Oliveira, the Brazilian mixed martial artist, lost his UFC lightweight title to Islam Makhachev last year in October. Ever since then ‘Do Bronx’ has been inactive in the division. He was previously set to clash against the prominent lightweight fighter Beneil Dariush. The fight was set for the co-main event of UFC 288 on May 6, headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Henry Cejudo. However, the bout got canceled as Oliveira pulled out of the fight. Instead of this fight, the UFC has set a five-round welterweight Gilbert Burns vs. Belal Muhammad at UFC 288.
However, UFC president Dana White has provided a fresh update on the lightweight fight. It seems like Oliveira vs. Dariush has a new date. Therefore, let’s look at the new information about the fight.
What did Dana White say about Charles Oliveira vs. Beneil Dariush
Recently the UFC supremo Dana White went live on his official Instagram account and announced a series of fights. There he also revealed the new dates for the lightweight fight between Oliveira vs. Dariush.
Just spoke with Dana White who said that the UFC are still working on adding the bout between Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush to the UFC 289 card in Vancouver, but it’s not a done deal as of yet.

The number one and four ranked UFC lightweights are set for the co-main event of UFC 289 on June 10. The pay-per-view is headlined by the trilogy between women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena in Vancouver, Canada.
Given the animosity between Nunes and Pena, the event already garnered enough hype. Now, with the lightweight fight added to the card, it would surely be a delightful pay-per-view for the fans.
More on- Oliveira vs. Dariush
Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush are among the best lightweights in the division. Given their position- among the top-5- it is very likely that the winner might receive a title fight.
Both Oliveira and Dariush have similar fighting styles. We have seen them dominate their opponents on the ground. Thus, it will be exciting to see how the fights go inside the cage.
The American UFC star is currently on a stunning eight-fight win streak with wins over the likes of Tony Ferguson and Mateusz Gamrot. On the other hand, the Brazilian MMA star was undefeated in eleven straight fights before his loss against Makhachev. However, this fight is important for both combatants to stay relevant in the title picture.
