Kurt Angle says SmackDown match reminded him of clashes with Chris Benoit

Kurt Angle says SmackDown match reminded him of clashes with Chris Benoit. Angle and Benoit had a legendary feud years back.

Chris Benoit was known as the rabid wolverine. Like the animal, he was also solitary, ferocious and had the strength to take on men much bigger than him.  Then you had Kurt Angle. Like Benoit, he was a strong man with an Olympic medal to show for. Although, he was far goofier. Put them together and you have one of the best rivalries ever in the WWE.

The two would go on to have several matches together. Their 2003 Royal Rumble match immediately comes to mind. Fans and critics have lavished praises on what was a technical standout.

Angle, who has been retired since 2019, took to Twitter to heap compliments to a match on SmackDown this week that he says reminded him of the matches he and Benoit had.

The match Angle was speaking about is Daniel Bryan vs Cesaro. The Hall of Famer described the match as a technical masterpiece while comparing it to his own matches with Benoit.

“I watched an incredible match on #SmackDown last night between Cesaro and Daniel Bryan – A technical masterpiece with great submission trade-offs and false finishes,” Angle wrote. “Reminded me of my matches with Benoit. Great job guys.”

Benoit’s name has been tabooed in the WWE Universe because of the circumstances of his death. It was determined after investigation by authorities that he had murdered his wife and son before committing murder.

The WWE has since refused to acknowledge Benoit and have understandably distanced themselves from him. Angle, who is no longer with the WWE, brought the topic up to the delight of a few who know that Benoit’s feats and achievements will never be spoken about and all they can do is remember them. There were also some who were disgusted at the mention and were quick to point out the elephant in the room.

Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
