John Cena discusses relationship with Vince McMahon. Cena was the Face of WWE for over a decade before he moved on to Hollywood.

Stone Cold had to retire due to an injury. The Rock had one foot out on his way to Hollywood. Brock Lesnar was burned out by the WWE schedule and Randy Orton was not mature enough for the top spot. In came John Cena and he became the prime player for the company for much of 2000’s and 2010’s.

The leader of the Cenation carried the company on his back and became one of its most popular stars ever. Just like his predecessor, the Rock, Cena moved on to Hollywood as his wrestling career neared its end. And just like the Brahma Bull, Cena is also very respectful of the man who helped him become a star.

While speaking with Bleacher Report’s Graham Matthews, Cena stated that his relationship with the WWE Chairman went beyond just emplyer-employee.

“Vince McMahon to me is more than anyone could realize. He’s a close friend, a mentor, a father figure. He means a tremendous amount to me. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to conceptualize how much I love him and how much he means to me.”

“It’s also appreciative that someone like that understands what I’m doing and approaches my choices with empathy rather than apathy. The guy who runs the joint isn’t saying, ‘Scr*w it, get down here! It’s on a weekend, I know you’re not working!’ He approaches those choices with empathy, saying, ‘This is a great opportunity for you, John. You’re always a part of this family, and if you do well, we all do well.’ I reciprocate in saying that I want the WWE to thrive.”

John Cena’s  last WWE appearance was against Bray Wyatt in the Firefly FunHouse match at Wrestlemania 36. The 16-time World Champion wasn’t able to attend Wrestlemania this year due to a scheduling conflict. Hopefully fans will get to see him sooner than later.

Archie is a WWE and UFC Editor/Author at the SportsRush. Like most combat sports enthusiasts, his passion for watching people fight began with WWE when he witnessed a young Brock Lesnar massacre Hulk Hogan back in 2002. This very passion soon branched out to boxing and mixed martial arts. Over the years he fell in love with the theatrics that preceded the bell and the poetic carnage that followed after. Each bruise a story to tell, each wound a song of struggle, his greatest desire is to be there to witness it all. His favorite wrestler is Shawn Michaels and he believes that GSP is the greatest to ever step foot inside the octagon. Apart from wrestling, he is also fond of poetry and music.
