Sasha Banks in NJPW

Just like pro wrestling as a whole, a lot has happened with “The Boss” Sasha Banks in the last six to eight months. Last year in May, she walked out and was then suspended alongside her tag team partner Naomi. After that, WWE virtually almost removed Banks from everywhere. In July, Vince McMahon retired, Triple H took over, and her fans saw a ray of hope for her return. However, Sasha Banks shocked everyone by making her NJPW debut as Mercedes Mone this week.

Despite the whole thing being an obvious rather than a surprise, it was a shocker for WWE fans. While everyone was sure Triple H would work things out, she made a different choice. And now that Sasha Banks is in NJPW, many believe she will be heading to AEW soon. In fact, a lot are sure Banks will appear in next week’s Dynamite episode.

WWE believes Sasha Banks won’t jump from NJPW to AEW and will eventually return

Recently, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez discussed the whole situation and gave some important insights. Speaking on the Wrestling Observer Newsletter both men gave their views on the future direction of The Boss. Meltzer noted Banks won’t be appearing at next week’s Dynamite as she is not in Los Angeles. Plus, he believes The Boss won’t be doing that as going to AEW means a long commitment.

Alvarez also mentioned how Britt Baker indirectly mentioned Sasha Banks by saying “I’m the boss.” However, Dave Meltzer feels that won’t be happening which is why AEW has already announced Saraya’s partner for next week.

Talking about WWE, Meltzer claimed the company is sure Sasha Banks won’t go to AEW after NJPW. In fact, WWE believes she will wrestle her matches in Japan and come back “at some point”.

Meltzer said:

“I also know from WWE that they are very strongly under the impression that she [Sasha Banks] will not wrestle for AEW… They think that she’s coming back at some point…”

Dave Meltzer further went on to state that Mercedes Mone is contracted to wrestle only a couple of matches. Moreover, if she goes to AEW, it will be a minimum 3-year deal which he suspects she will be ok with.

Mercedes Mone will be wrestling her first match in the NJPW ring next month

Although Banks’ debut was a flat one for many, she was put into the title picture immediately. After making her entrance, she confronted IWGP Women’s Champion Kairi. In fact, Sasha Banks, who now goes by the name Mercedes Mone, will challenge the champion at NJPW Battle in the Valley on February 18.

Nevertheless, Banks has just made her debut in New Japan and a WWE return seems too soon to predict. Though it will be interesting to see if she goes to AEW or not. As of now, she is neither WWE nor AEW but a NJPW superstar.
