“You going to TNA is just… BLEGH” – Sting reveals Vince McMahon’s reaction when he rejected WWE
Sting reveals Vince McMahon’s reaction when he rejected WWE to work with TNA instead after the folding of rival promotion WCW.
With the demise of WCW, the WWE stacked itself with several high profile talent from the roster. One glaring omission however, was Sting. The Icon did not jump ship with the hoard of superstars who made Vince McMahon’s promotion their new home.

Speaking on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Sting revealed that Vince approached him to join the WWE. However, he chose to work with TNA instead in part due to having worked with Jeff Jarrett before and also because Jarrett’s father gave him his first break in the business. Vince however, wasn’t too pleased with the decision and made it clear to Sting.
Sting reveals Vince McMahon’s reaction when he rejected WWE
“Vince was in the picture once again, and I’ll never forget it—I’m talking to him on the phone and I said, ‘Vince, I’m going to go to TNA.’ [And Vince says] ‘The thought of you and the legacy that you leave behind, and you going to TNA is just… BLEGH.’ [laughs] ‘He literally said ‘BLEGH.’ Yeah. Yeah, and then I’m working for him a few years later” Sting revealed.
Sting’s sting at TNA lasted for 11 years, during which he won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship 4 times. He was inducted in their Hall of Fame back in 2012. As mentioned by Sting himself, the Icon would finally join WWE, making his debut in 2014.
His first official match however, came at Wrestlemania 2015 where he lost to Triple H. He would eventually be inducted in WWE’s hall of fame as well in 2016 before joining AEW in a surprise move that shocked the entire wrestling community.
