Every in-ring performer has something that makes him/her stand out among his fellow wrestlers. And those on the top of the table possess more than one thing. For example, John Cena, apart from his excellent physique, also stood out because of his Jorts. Be it the first to the sixteenth world title win, fans saw him wearing denim shorts. Though, they also wondered why he chose to sport such a unique look. Well, John Cena himself once revealed why he wears “Jorts” while wrestling.

The Cenation Leader debuted in WWE in June 2002 under the generic “Prototype” gimmick. However, a few months later, he dropped the persona and started performing as “The Doctor of Thuganomics”, a stereotypical 1990s white rapper gimmick.

John Cena began to wear Jorts as a part of that heel character. Later, he turned babyface but kept sporting the same gear. At WrestleMania 21, he won his first-ever WWE world title, which changed his career forever. However, the one thing that didn’t change was his denim shorts.

The hilarious reason why John Cena kept wearing Jorts as his in-ring gear

A few years ago, The Cenation Leader was a special guest on “The Late Late Show with James Corden“. Because Jorts looked like an odd in-ring gear choice, John Cena was asked to answer why he still chose to wear that.

The 16-time WWE champion had more than one reason as to why he decided to wrestle in that ring gear. First, he wanted to give his wannabe rapper moniker a bit of a street fighter look. That’s why he chose denim shorts because the only other choice he had was underwear.

John Cena further stated that he did try to wear cargo shorts instead of jorts a few times. However, when he was putting his life on the line in the ring, all focus went on his private parts. So, Denim Shorts seemed to be the safest option.

Well, for those who wonder why John Cena wears jorts while wrestling, it’s because he doesn’t want anyone to see his private parts. The reason might seem funny, but it’s what he said on the show.

“I chose denim because you don’t blow the crotch out of denim,” Cena said. “I tried cargo pants, and in front of the world a few times … here I am trying to put my life on the line with the Superstars I’m having a match with, and everyone’s just looking at my d–k. So, denim’s a safe play.”

At WrestleMania 35, fans got to see the old Doctor of Thuganomics roasting his opponents

After wrestling as The Doctor of Thuganomics for over two years, John Cena dropped the gimmick in early 2005. The decision behind that was his fans, who mostly were kids. Though he did make a few appearances in that persona after that.

At WrestleMania 35, The Cenation Leader shocked his fans by bringing back his The Doctor of Thuganomics. Cena interrupted Elias during his musical segment, brutally roasted him, and even delivered his vintage FU finisher.
