“I Call Him My Nephew”: Shannon Sharpe Yet Again Showers Praise on Travis Kelce After Chiefs’ Win Over Chargers
The Kansas City Chiefs are killing it this season, and their TE weapon, Travis Kelce, has been a key factor. In their recent clash against the LA Chargers, the eight-time Pro Bowler’s third-quarter touchdown broke the tie. They went on to win that showdown, and even Shannon Sharpe couldn’t help but shower praise on the NFL star.
After winning 31-17 against the Chargers, the debate about whether Kelce is the NFL’s top pass-catcher emerged. Sharpe took to “First Take” to voice his opinion on the matter.
Shannon Sharpe Calls Travis Kelce the GOAT TE
Sharpe was certainly confident of Travis Kelce’s abilities as a tight end as he showered praises on him on the show. During his time on ‘First Take’, Sharpe referred to the Chiefs’ man as the GOAT tight end. Additionally, he pointed out that Kelce has an added edge when it comes to his post-season form.
“Look, I think everybody knows how I feel about Travis. I call him my nephew. I think he’s the GOAT tight end given what he’s done in the regular season and then he steps up even more in the post-season. I think he’s the best, the greatest tight end to have ever played this game,” said Sharpe. However, it wasn’t Trav who he chose as the greatest pass-catcher, as he further elaborated, “The most dangerous pass catcher is Tyreek Hill. I mean Tyreek Hill has 53 catches, 902 yards, averaging 17-yard a catch, and seven touchdowns.“
Although Travis wasn’t Sharpe’s favorite pass-catcher, he has never shied away from showing praise for the star TE. As Kelce set the expectations high with his amazing display at the recent showdowns, Sharpe once praised him for being there for the Chiefs when it mattered the most.
Interestingly, the Chiefs TE has passed Sharpe as the No. 4 all-time on the TE receiving yards list. Sharpe was not only appreciative of this but also mentioned that the 8x Pro Bowler manages to deliver every single time in the playoffs.
Patrick Mahomes Talks About His Special Connection with Travis
The Chiefs‘ star QB, Mahomes, recently spoke about his constant connection with Travis during a game. He referred to his teammate as a “special player” and added that his favorite target consistently finds openings in critical moments. In the game against the Chargers, the other players from the receiving corp stepped up, which made Travis’s job relatively easy.
“He is a special player, man. The way he understands games, he understands coverages, and he gets himself hopeful. I’m proud of other guys who have stepped up and taken some pressure off him,” Mahomes said.

After the upset loss against the Lions in their season opener, the Chiefs have bounced back with an impressive 6-1 record. They are set to take on the Broncos next week, a team that has faced considerable setbacks this season. By this pace, the defending champ’s playoff berth is nearly assured. However, the question lingers if Travis can maintain his status as Mahomes’ trustee pass-catcher in the coming weeks.
