“We are very normal with each other”– Max Verstappen speaks on his relations with Lewis Hamilton
“We are very normal with each other”– Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are in a fierce rivalry this season, but a normal relation outside.
Max Verstappen is now more than a hurdle to the championship for Lewis Hamilton, as the Dutch race driver is now more than ever close in a championship race.
The rivalry has turned fierce, but as of now, unlike Hamilton’s former victims, his relations with Verstappen are highly normal, and there is nothing much to discover between them outside the track.
“Fine, we are very normal with each other,” said Verstappen when discussing his relationship with Hamilton on ServusTV. “We’ve had some great fights on track and hopefully it will stay that way throughout the year.”
In Hamilton’s former bouts, he has often gone intense against his rivals after the race too, but this time the case has remained calm so far. It could be because of the age gap, maybe Verstappen admires him for his achievements, or maybe Hamilton has calmed down immensely.
“We have a good chance”– Max Verstappen
Verstappen fully believes that his team has a good chance to beat Mercedes, as, for the first time, their car is fast in the season start and not in the end.
“Mercedes is still powerful on the normal circuits,” he said. “In other years, we were too slow in the first part of the season and up to speed towards the end. This year our start to the year was much better and more competitive, with the whole package. We have a good chance.
“We could have done a little better a few times, and In Bahrain, we should have won. Imola was good. In Portugal and Spain, Mercedes was a bit faster.
“But we are first. Everyone makes mistakes and I think we have made the fewest mistakes so far this year.”.
