When it comes to the NFL, comparisons between quarterbacks are a hot topic of debate among fans, analysts and even players. Following a similar trend, a discussion surrounding Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes reached new heights recently when Burrow declared Mahomes the best QB in the competition.

However, a recent episode of SPEAK featured somewhat of a heated exchange between Will Blackmon and LeSean McCoy when the same topic came up for discussion. Blackmon firmly claimed that Joe Burrow is indeed better than Patrick Mahomes. Listening to Blackmon, McCoy seemed quite fumed with his viewpoint and expressed his disagreement.
What did Will Blackmon say about Burrow & Mahomes?
During a recent episode of SPEAK, Will Blackmon gave way to some controversy as he stated facts proclaiming that Bengals superstar Joe Burrow is better than current Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes. Will Blackmon said, “I want to say he’s better right now.”
“Mahomes just won another MVP, another Super Bowl like he keeps separating himself but the one thing that I do appreciate with Joe Burrow is that he has that ability as a quarterback to elevate everybody around him and that’s really hard in terms of a quarterback,” Will further stated. This bold statement sparked a strong reaction from LeSean McCoy who for sure wasn’t amused.
McCoy, who’s a former teammate of Mahomes and a Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, got back at Blackmon’s claim with his version of facts. McCoy, taking Mahomes‘ side, said that Will should be more respectful while talking about the 2x Super Bowl champion QB.
“I think Joe is a hell of a player, he’s gonna get even better but right now we got to stop putting Patrick Mahomes’ number 15 for the Chiefs in that category,” LeSean stated. McCoy’s disagreement was evident as he continued defending Mahomes as one of the league’s best QB, reiterating that he is currently miles ahead of anyone else in the game.
Joe Burrow vs Patrick Mahomes, who stands where?
Both Burrow and Mahomes had splendid starts to their careers but the Kansas City QB has well and truly surpassed mighty Joe, when it comes to winning MVPs and championships. Patrick has 2 Super Bowl rings, has won Super Bowl MVP on 2 occasions, and has 2 regular season MVP awards as well. On the other hand, while Burrow was named the 2021 comeback player of the year, he is yet to win a SB ring, or any MVP awards.
One thing to note is that Mahomes has benefited from a strong suit of teammates. These included stars like former mate Tyreek Hill and current pal Travis Kelce. Moreover, he has also enjoyed the guidance of a renowned coach like Andy Reid. These factors have undoubtedly contributed to Mahomes’ success. However, it is also true that ensuring 3 Super Bowl appearances in 6 seasons is still a task most QBs would struggle to accomplish, even with the best of players in the team.
However, if we talk about their head-to-head battles so far, Joe Burrow has had the better of Mahomes. He has emerged victorious in three out of their four encounters against the KC star. It will be interesting to see how things pan out when these two stars ultimately end up facing each other in the coming season.
