Jorge Masvidal reacts to UFC 251 record Buyrate. The Pay Per View was the best drawing pay per view since Conor McGregor took on Khabib Nurmagomedov.
UFC 251 recorded an astounding 1.3 million viewers according to the Athletic. This makes it the highest drawing UFC pay per view since UFC 229 when Khabib Nurmagomedov beat Conor McGregor. The buy rate for that event is said to be 2.4 million.

Neither Conor nor Khabib participated on the night though. The huge interest in the first pay per view at Fight Island has largely been credited to Jorge Masvidal who featured on the card as a last-minute replacement after Gilbert Burns tested positive for Covid-19.
Masvidal trained and made weight on short notice. Several spectators turned up to see if he could really go the distance. For many including Daniel Cormier, Masvidal was entering a no-lose situation. A win would only add to his laurels. A loss however, could be swept away given the circumstances.
The anticipation regardless, to see Gamebred take on Usman, with whom he’s had a brewing rivalry, is telling of Masvidal’s status withing the promotion as a huge draw.

Masvidal failed to prise the UFC welterweight championship from Kamaru Usman, who retained after a rather tame 5-round affair. The loss brings an end to his 3-win streak. Usman on the other hand, extends his winning streak to 16 and will likely face Gilbert Burns next.
