Buffalo Bills Logo History: Story Behind the Introduction of the Charging Buffalo and more
Buffalo Bills logo history: The Buffalo Bills are a franchise that goes way back to the 1900s, and they’ve had a history of iconic logos to come to where they are now.
The Bills are currently locked into a playoff battle against the Miami Dolphins. After another strong regular season where Josh Allen established himself as an MVP candidate, the team hopes to build upon a strong season.
Buffalo has made the playoffs three years running now, but they have yet to sniff the Super Bowl. The last two years, they have lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the 2019-20 season, Buffalo wasn’t ready for the Chiefs might as they fell 38-24 in the AFC Championship Game. Last year, they were on their way to an iconic win in the divisional round, but Mahomes ripped the hearts out of the Bills in overtime. This year, Buffalo will do anything to get their revenge.

The Bills logo change for the 1974 season was monumental. They shifted away from the red standing Buffalo to the blue charging one that we know now. Artist Steven Wright designed the logo.
How did the Buffalo Bills get their name?
There is a deep history to how Buffalo got its name as well. Following the 1946 season, Buffalo needed a way to increase fan support and gain more followers. They also needed to distinguish themselves from the minor league baseball and hockey teams which were called the Bisons.
The team ran a contest to see what fans would prefer, and ‘Bills’ was the winner. The name beat out ‘Bullets’, ‘Nickels’, and ‘Silvers.’
