Throwback: Max Holloway Recapped His Interesting Conversation with Conor McGregor During Their Fight

Conor McGregor, the former two-division champion, is religiously preparing for his UFC return against Michael Chandler. ‘The Notorious’ is returning from a devastating leg injury. Thus, many doubt his future in MMA. However, the Irishman seems motivated and even teased a rematch with a former opponent even before his return. The former UFC lightweight champion took to his official Twitter account to talk about it.

Interestingly, even his former opponent appears interested in the rematch with the Irish superstar. Let’s talk a look at what McGregor has to say about it.

Conor McGregor teases rematch with ex-opponent Max Holloway

McGregor recently replied to a fan account and talked about a rematch with former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway. Apparently, it was Max Holloway who initiated the talk about a rematch.

‘Blessed’ recently bounced back into the win column after a championship loss in 2022 by defeating Arnold Allen. Following that, Holloway stated that he wants to compete against McGregor one more time before the latter retires in a no-weight limit match.

 

The news was posted on an MMA page on Twitter. Interestingly, McGregor, after acknowledging it, replied by accepting the fight and claimed that he was not retiring just yet. He wrote, “I’m never retiring so we defo fighting, lad.”

Max Holloway and Conor McGregor went at each other in 2013. It was McGregor’s second UFC bout. It ended in a decision, with McGregor getting his hands raised. All of McGregor’s wins in the UFC have come via a finish. But ‘Blessed’ is the only fighter who lost against him via decision.

Also, it was a treat to watch two of the best strikers in the division go against each other. Thus, it will be exciting to see them run it once again. But it is far from possible given the weight differences for now.

After suffering a leg break in his third match against rival Dustin Poirier, McGregor took over a year to recover. However, he has returned to training and is even honing his wrestling skills at SBG Ireland.

Earlier, the UFC announced that ‘The Notorious’ will headline a pay-per-view later this year against Michael Chandler. The former Bellator champion, given his explosiveness, seems like a perfect opponent for McGregor’s return.

 

Both McGregor and Chandler have even finished shooting for the upcoming season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ as coaches. However, their fight nearing there’s not much update on the weight class, venue, or exact date of the fight.

Thus, many, including UFC legend Chael Sonnen, have cast doubt on the mega-fight. However, given the company’s business in it, the fight is very likely to take place. But it might take a little longer than expected.
