“For Me, Stephen Curry Has Five Rings!”: Sonya Curry Sheds Light on Warriors’ MVP Upholding His 13-Year-Old Promise

2022 was a special year for Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. To start the year, Klay Thompson returned after missing 941 days of action due to injuries. Steph won the All-Star Game MVP in February.

The Warriors went ahead to secure the 3rd seed in the West, and took down their Western Opponents while losing only four games in three series. The Finals against the Boston Celtics weren’t easy, and the Dubs went down 1-2 early in the series.

However, Stephen Curry took over from Game 4, and the Warriors won three games in a row, to secure the 2022 NBA Championship. Steph had a brilliant year, to say the least.

However, out of this entire list of achievements, Steph’s mom is the happiest about the one that happened off the court.

Sonya Curry was ecstatic that Stephen Curry received his degree

Even after the season ended, Stephen Curry did not have time to himself. Throughout the summer, he had various places to be and various obligations to fulfill. One of those was going to Davidson for his graduation.

In 2008, Stephen Curry decided to forego his senior year at Davidson and enlisted in the NBA Draft. At that time, he promised his mother, Sonya Curry, that he would return and finish his degree.

It took Steph 13 years, but he finished his course requirements over the spring and graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in August.

Talking about the same and how much it meant to her, Sonya said that she feels that she now has five rings instead of four.

Sonya Curry talks about Steph’s breakdown on the court

After winning the NBA Finals, Stephen Curry broke down on the court, and was in tears. There were mixed emotions all around as he was laughing and crying at the same time. When asked about the same, Sonya shared that the biggest feeling in his mind was relief that the year is over.

There were way too many expectations on Steph that season and he rose up to the occasion every single time.
